Intel Put 6-Core Into New 45nm Xeon 7400 Series

Intel has extended its lead in the high-end server segment,
setting new standards in virtualization performance with the launch of seven 45
nm manufactured Intel® Xeon® Processor 7400 Series products.
These products offer frequencies up to 2.66 GHz and power levels down to 50
watts, including the first 6-core, x86 compatible 65-watt version which
translates to just under 11 watts per processor core, with platforms available
in rack, tower and highly dense blade form factors.
Pricing for the Xeon® 7000 Sequence processors in quantities of 1,000 ranges
from $856 to $2,729.

Elpida Developed Fastest DDR3 Chips

Elpida had developed the world's first 2.5Gbps1Gb DDR3 SDRAM. The new memory device has an optimized
design based on a copper interconnect process and new circuit technology that
not only enables faster speeds but also an ultra-low voltage operation of 1.2V
while conforming to DDR3 specifications. It achieves data
rates of 2.5Gbps at 1.5V and 1.8Gbps at 1.2V, considerably faster than the
current industry standard of 1.6Gbps at 1.5V.

Intel Gives Nehalem Official Name; Core i7
12 August 2008 -
Intel announced desktop processors based on the
company's upcoming new microarchitecture (codenamed "Nehalem") will be formally
branded "Intel® Core™ processor." The first products in this new family of
processors, including an "Extreme Edition" version, will carry an "i7"
identifier and will be formally branded as "Intel® Core™ i7 processor." This is
the first of several new identifiers to come as different products launch over
the next year.

Intel Bloomfield On X58 Board Benchmarked

Another interesting hunt over at Computex is definitely the Intel Nehalem and
we managed to get our hands on a 2.66GHz Bloomfield running on a X58 Tylersburg
board. Its 3DMark Vantage CPU score is pretty remarkable at 16334 which is about
45% faster than a similarly clocked Yorkfield.

Intel To Release Faster Xeon UP In Q3

There will be some price cuts on current Xeon UP processors in Q3 as well as
the launch of new quad and dual core Xeons. A faster Xeon X3370 will arrive in
Q3 for $530 where the X3360 has its price cut to $316. A cheaper quad core X3330
with 6MB cache will be available for $266 while X3220 and X3210 have their price
lowered further to $209. Dual core E3120 and E3110 will be available for $188
and $167 respectively.

Intel Upcoming Desktop CPU Price Cut
21 May 2008 -
Intel plans to release two new quad cores, Q9650 and Q9400 in Q3 '08 at $530
and $266 respectively. As such, Q9550 pricing will be lowered from $530 to $316
and Q6600 will be further lowered from $224 to $203. Intel also plans to release
two new Core 2 Duo, E8600 and E7300 in Q3 at $266 and $133 respectively. By
then, E8500 price will be cut from $266 to $183, E8400 from $183 to $163 and
E7200 from $ 133 to $ 113.
