Thermaltake Provides Phase Change Cooling for AMD Graphics Cards

Thermaltake today announced an initiative with AMD to redesign the revolutionary Xpressar micro refrigeration cooling system for use with ATI Radeon™ HD 4000 series graphics cards. First introduced in a specialized case designed to achieve CPU temperatures much lower than standard liquid cooling systems, the Xpressar technology will be modified for use as a graphics cooling solution. When commercially available, the Xpressar graphics solution could reduce graphics processor temperatures by as much as 20°C when compared to common liquid cooling products.

ATI RV740 - A 40nm RV770 In Disguise

RV740 is often misunderstood as the successor to RV730 which in fact is far from it. RV740 is expected to take the market by storm by Q2 next year as the best value/performance chip from AMD. It is AMD's first 40nm GPG chip with all IP being re-designed and characterized for 40nm. Due to its 40nm process, power consumption clearly will be much lower than HD 4830 yet faster. Performance of RV740 is estimated to be between HD 4830 and HD 4850.

GeForce GTX 295 vs HD 4870 X2 Benchmarks

Seems like more GeForce GTX 295 card photos and details have surfaced today along with several benchmarks done internally by Nvidia. The specs remains the same of what we have reported earlier. According to the graph, the GTX 295 card is faster than HD 4870 X2 in the recent games but no details on the settings and drivers used so we have to take it with a pinch of salt. However, it is unlikely Nvidia will be able to match AMD in this dual GPU price war. If Nvidia ever get close enough, AMD will cut their price further.

HIS Unveils HD 4870 IceQ 4+ Turbo

HIS today unveils the HD 4870 IceQ 4+ Turbo overclocked to 780MHz (512MB version) & 770MHz (1GB version). Supplied with 1GB/512MB of GDDR5 memory running at a peak of 4000MHz, the card has its temperature controlled by the latest HIS cooling technology, the IceQ 4+. The IceQ 4+ technology draws in cooler air across the GPU and memory, then expels the hot air directly out of the chassis rather than keeping it circulating.

AMD Plans RV775XT To Compete GeForce GTX 285

We were told about a new RV775XT core which is essentially a fine tune version of the RV770. However, little information was revealed at this point of time but i can say AMD is concentrating their efforts on RV740 instead. We are speculating AMD has been collecting the higher speed bins over the months to make this card out to compete against GTX285 offering. It looks exactly the same as the GeForce GTX 280 card but comes with 2 x 6-pin power connectors instead of 8+6 pins. We are able to confirm at this point that it has 240 SPs, 512-bit memory and 1GB GDDR3 memories just like the current GTX280. Expreview has provided more insights on the GeForce GTX 285 like 183W TDP and 110% performance boost over GTX280.
